On July 1, 2024, I woke up with an unusual sense of anticipation. It wasn’t just the promise of a new day that stirred within me, but the knowledge that a new lunar cycle was beginning very soon! As an avid skywatcher, I had marked this date on my calendar months in advance. Little did I know, this celestial event would not only herald a new beginning but also realign my life in unexpected ways.
The early dawn light filtered through the curtains, casting a soft glow in the room. I stretched, feeling the familiar excitement of an upcoming astronomical event. Today was the day of the New Moon, a time for setting intentions and starting afresh. I had always felt a deep connection to the lunar cycle, finding solace and inspiration in its phases.
Major Astronomical Events & Me
New Moon, New Me
The first major event of the month will be the New Moon on July 5. That evening, I will stand in my backyard, gazing up at the night sky. The absence of the moon will create a canvas of stars, twinkling like distant beacons of hope. Closing my eyes, I will make a wish and set intentions for the new lunar month. A sense of renewal and possibility will fill me as if the universe is offering me a fresh start.
Breathe Easy in the Full Moon
On July 21, the Full Moon will grace the sky, bringing with it the culmination of intentions set at the start of the period. I know this will be a time of heightened emotions and realizations. I look forward to celebrating achievements and reflecting on what has been accomplished. The Full Moon has always been a time of clarity for me, a moment to channel energy into productive tasks and avoid impulsive decisions.
Look Up for Mercury’s Magic
July 22 will hold another special event: Mercury at Greatest Eastern Elongation. This will be the best time to view Mercury, as it will be at its highest point above the horizon in the evening sky. I plan to set up my telescope and spend the evening marveling at the smallest planet in our solar system. A sense of wonder will fill me at the thought of seeing Mercury, a distant world bathed in the light of the setting sun.
Stargaze a Meteor Shower
The month will culminate in a spectacular display of shooting stars on the nights of July 28 and 29, when the Delta Aquarids Meteor Shower will peak. I eagerly anticipate these nights, ready to witness the beauty of meteors streaking across the sky. I have always found comfort in the sight of shooting stars, each one a reminder of the fleeting yet magical moments in life.
